The North Platte Telegraph
Boys and Girls Club of Nebraska celebrated the last day of school with their first-ever
"End of School Bash" Thursday.
In cooperation with the Platte River Mall, the day began with a pizza lunch in the mall's
center court. A scavenger hunt led the group from the mall back to the club at 401 E.
Fourth, where festivities continued, including volleyball, 2-on-2 basketball tournament
and water-balloon games. The day culminated with a cookout and outdoor dance.
An average of 35 youth attend the club every day, according to executive director Jacki
Proctor.
"This year we are offering summer camps," Proctor said.
The camps join other programs, such as the Teen Outdoor Adventure and the Junior Staff
program to help youth improve their social skills, become involved in community service,
and aware of issues surrounding the environment.
The first camp will begin on Monday, June 2.
"It's Pet Week," Proctor said. "Paws-itive Partners will work with the
kids, and have lined up all sorts of fun activities."
Camp is available to children who are going into the first grade next fall, up to age 13,
Proctor said. Cost of the camp is $50 a week and includes two meals. Camps run from 7:45
a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Dues for membership in Boys and Girls Club are $5 a year, Proctor said.
"Just come on down to the club and sign up," she said.
